BEHAVIOR BEFORE OTHER VESSELS IN NAVIGATION

BEHAVIOR BEFORE OTHER VESSELS IN NAVIGATION

  • Any ship approaching you from the right (starboard) side has right of way. Stop the march until it passes.
  • If you approach another ship that is sailing in the opposite direction and in the same direction as you, avoid it by turning to your right (starboard).
  • Sailboats always have the right of way no matter where they come from. always get out of his way
  • As a recommendation, always stay away from boats larger than you and that go at high speed. It is safer for you than thinking about who has the right of way. If you have doubts on which side you will pass better, stop the march and let him decide which side to overtake.
  • Always respect the passage of the ferries, since it is much more difficult for them to maneuver, to get out of their way.
  • Whenever you do a maneuver to avoid a sailboat, try to pass it by its stern (rear), never try to avoid it by going by the bow.
